Humpback is the whale that most frequently jumps up to once every 40 seconds. It is repeated for several minutes. Experts think that these jumps are part of the procession, which are a challenge or a show of force. The first to leave the bay area are the newly impregnated females followed by adults and youth, and finally by mature adults. The latest to leave are the mothers and their offspring conceived the previous year. This extra time in warm water allows the calves to develop a thick insulating layer of fat needed in cold northern home. These large mammals each year travel 400 kilometers from the North Pole to reach the equatorial Pacific Ocean. They can be seen in the Banderas Bay from mid-December until April.Visitors to Puerto Vallarta have the opportunity to observe one of the most beautiful spectacles of nature about 18 kilometers offshore from the Marietta Islands. Scene of the humpback whale in the area of two rocks called E l Morro and La Corbeteña is truly an unforgettable experience.
